The week that
Dave proposed was not like any other.
Between the two of us, I was usually the one
sitting in emerge for hours waiting to see a
doctor, either sick as a dog or not being
able to walk from pain, a side effect of a
rare cancer I survived years age.
However, this week it was Dave’s turn as he
was suffering from cold symptoms, chest
pains, and a fever of 103. I spent all of my
time that week making sure he was
comfortable. Everyday he would head out to
work no matter how horrible he felt, when he
returned home he would crash on the couch as
I would pump him full of drugs and do
everything I could think of to bring his
fever down.
At night I would watch him toss and turn, he
would sweat so much that I would change the
sheets every morning, in the evenings I
would try and catch a nap before he returned
home and it started all over.
After numerous days of this routine Dave
came home one day woke me up and handed me a
dozen roses. I was under the impression that
it was for taking care of him, but as I was
reading the card I realized he was asking me
to be his wife. He pulled out my ring, asked
me to marry him and made me the happiest
women in the world.
As I was still in bed from taking a nap I
got up to take Dave’s temperature once
again. Seeing as it was still high we headed
to the hospital and learned Dave was
suffering from H1N1 and Bronchitis. It was
an engagement we will never forget. |
